Women Wake

This “When Women Wake” print was a personal project of mine that came to me like much of my inspiration does, while traveling. While visiting a good friend in Albany, New York, we stumbled upon a Women’s Suffrage gallery exhibit. The exhibit consisted of original posters and memorabilia from women’s marches of the past and present.

This simple, yet powerful tiny sign was displayed among thousands of others. Something about this one really held my attention, hence the (terrible quality) photo I quickly snapped of it so I could remember it later on with the idea of creating my own version when I have free time.

Initially designed for a square handkerchief, this became my final version of the poster I saw months prior. I chose to produce it as a 12in x 12in letterpress print rather than a handkerchief because I figured more people would be interested in purchasing them.
